FS Standard Revision V9 – August 2024

The Fair Stone Association has successfully finalized the revision of the WiN=WiN Fair Stone Standard from Version 8 to Version 9. The revision, mandated at least every five years, is a process to update the standard criteria not only based on our accumulated experience over the past years but also on the valuable input from relevant stakeholders. In two phases, new requirements from third parties and legislation were incorporated into an initial draft, which was presented to the members at the annual general meeting. Subsequently, additional feedback was actively sought from as many stakeholders as possible, including those from the Global South, to ensure a comprehensive revision.
The criteria and various elements of the standard serve as the foundation for audits in registered factories and quarries. Several proposals for improvement also stemmed from external requirements for certifications (such as those set by the Federal Government, ITC, or new supply chain laws). The most important changes include: a) Enhanced due diligence requirements and grievance mechanisms, b) Integration of a structured approach for risk profiles in on-site reports, c) Incorporation of recommendations for responsible purchasing practices, and d) Inclusion of additional requirements from the German Due-Diligence Law (LKSG).
